Electricity Substation in the Brutalist Style
Description
Moore Street electrical substation, Sheffield city centre. Designed by architect Jefferson Sheard in the Brutalist style and built in 1968 in reinforced concrete. Sheard referred to his building as a "citadel", overlooking the ring road and Moore Street roundabout underpass. Illumination via coloured lights were added in 2010 to soften the brutalism on a major route into the city centre used by many visitors (though many no longer work). The building was awarded Grade II listing status in 2013.
